Hymer Unveils Eriba Car: A Retro-Styled, VW Crafter-Based Camper Van

Hymer, the renowned camper van manufacturer, is delving into nostalgia to shape the future of camper vans. The all-new Eriba Car, built on a modern VW Crafter van, draws inspiration from the classic dual-tone VW camper bus. It aims to offer van lifers a distinctive and nostalgic experience. The Eriba Car is part of the Eriba brand, known for camping trailers, but Hymer is tapping into the brand's cult classic status to create a van with immediate cult appeal. The van features a retro-inspired multi-color design reminiscent of classic Volkswagens.

Inside the Eriba Car, the vibrant Deep Blue furniture and panels are complemented by earthy surfaces, creating a unique and cozy ambiance. The layout includes a raised foldaway sprung mattress at the rear, providing a comfortable sleeping surface at night while keeping the central aisle clear during the day. The wet bathroom, located on the driver's side, includes a shower, toilet, foldaway sink, and vanity mirror. The galley on the opposite side features a dual-burner gas stove, sink, extendable counter, and pull-out refrigerator. The van also includes a swiveling dual-leaf dining table, rear bench, and swivel cab seats. 

Built on a Volkswagen Crafter 3500 with a 2.0-liter TDI engine, the Eriba Car offers a choice of 140-hp or 177-hp tunes. It comes with a standard six-speed manual transmission, with an automatic option. The living area is equipped with heat and hot water, a 95-Ah AGM leisure battery, and a 100-L fresh water tank. The Eriba Car made its debut at the CMT show in Stuttgart and is set to be available from European dealers in the spring of 2024, starting at a base price of €74,900 (approx. US$81,600).
