Honda Malaysia made waves at the close of 2023 with the introduction of the highly-anticipated all-new CRV, and it's making quite a statement. This iteration surpasses its predecessor in every aspect – larger, smarter, more aesthetically pleasing, and safer than ever.
The initial launch showcased three variants: the flagship V variant at RM181,900, the mid-spec E variant at RM169,900, and the entry-level S variant priced at RM159,900. However, the one that had enthusiasts eagerly awaiting, the e:HEV RS, was notably absent from the launch.
As promised, Honda Malaysia has now revealed the price for the much-anticipated e:HEV RS model in early 2024, and it's an unexpectedly attractive RM195,900. This pricing defies expectations, as many anticipated a figure north of RM210,000 for this model.
What do you get for this price? Under the hood, the e:HEV RS boasts a 2.0-litre hybrid powertrain, generating 184PS and 335Nm of torque. Aesthetically, especially in the RS trim, the all-new CRV is a head-turner. LED headlights and tail-lights are complemented by LED sequential turn signals at the front and active cornering lights that illuminate blind spots when cornering.
Inside, the CRV undergoes a transformation, aligning with the current Honda design language but taking cues from the Honda Civic. A notable first for Honda in Malaysia is the inclusion of a 12-speaker Bose sound system, exclusively available in the flagship model.
Prioritizing safety, the e:HEV RS offers a comprehensive package, featuring eight airbags (including two knee airbags), a 360° camera, Honda LaneWatch, and Honda Connect. The new CRV integrates nine Honda Sensing functions, including Adaptive Driving Beam.
Practicality shines with a class-leading 598-litre boot capacity. Adding to the convenience is a hands-free powered tailgate with Walkaway Close function, allowing you to walk away, and as long as the key is with you, the tailgate closes automatically.
Having had the opportunity to drive the e:HEV RS in Thailand before its launch, we were impressed with its smooth performance. This smoothness is attributed to new body-stabilizing seats that enhance comfort, coupled with wheel resonators that absorb vibrations before reaching the cabin, delivering an impressively smooth ride. The all-new CRV, especially the e:HEV RS, stands as a compelling option in the SUV segment, offering a blend of performance, aesthetics, and advanced features.
