Ford Territory Arriving Later This Year

Coming our way in the second quarter of this year is the Ford Territory, a new addition to Ford’s lineup in South Africa. It's set to fill a vital spot between the Everest and Puma in Ford's range of passenger vehicles, and it's geared to be a popular choice. Doreen Mashinini, Ford South Africa's general manager for marketing, emphasizes its significance in the rapidly growing SUV segment.

The Territory, a five-seater SUV, will be available in three different trim levels. Powering this model is a 1.8l EcoBoost petrol engine, pushing out 138kW and 318N.m. This engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, directing power to the front wheels. Four selectable drive modes—Normal, Eco, Sport, and Mountain—allow for customization based on driving conditions. Hill Launch Assist and Hill Descent Control add to the driving aids.

The pricing details are a bit elusive, but Ford hints that it could start at R610,000 for the entry-level Ambiente spec. Additional options include the Trend and the top-tier Titanium model.

Each trim level brings changes both in terms of comfort and aesthetics. The entry models feature 18-inch alloy wheels, while the Titanium boasts larger 19-inch designs. The Titanium also flaunts a panoramic moonroof and a 12.3-inch high-definition digital instrument cluster.

The interior features a spacious setup with plenty of storage—20 spaces, to be exact. The boot provides up to 448 liters of cargo space, expandable to 1,422 liters with the rear seats folded flat. Even the entry-level Ambiente offers goodies like Passive Entry and Passive Start, privacy glass, Bluetooth audio with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and rear parking sensors.

Moving up to the Trend, you get additional features such as automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, a dual-zone climate system, wireless phone charging, and a reversing camera. The top-tier Titanium takes it up another notch with chrome trim, heated and folding side mirrors, and additional parking sensors. On the tech front, it includes safety features like Blind Spot Information System, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Lane Change Assist.

Color choices for the Ford Territory include Star White Tri-coat, Panther Black Metallic, True Blue Metallic, Ruby Red Metallic, Lustrous Grey, Moonlight Blue Metallic, and Crystal Pearl White Metallic Tri-coat.

Ensuring safety across the lineup, all Territory models come equipped with Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control, Emergency Brake Assist, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, and Ford’s Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. The comprehensive safety package includes six airbags—dual front, side, and curtain airbags.

In essence, the Ford Territory aims to be a versatile and accessible SUV, catering to a broad audience with its varied trim levels and an array of features. Keep an eye out for its arrival in the second quarter of this year.
